Peter Simon is a sound artist, field recordist.
He studied at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne, graduating with a Master’s degree with a focus on sound art/installation. He also studied physics at the Ruhr University in Bochum.
His work focuses on sound ecology, psychoacoustics, bioacoustics and the study of different forms of information transmission and their impact and influence on the individual and society.
Since 2008 he has been cooperating with Freya Hattenberger as a performance duo.They explore the different worlds of life and their forms of communication with the means of sound art.
Since the 90s he has been working continuously on his own sound pieces in many projects, they move between Musique Concrète and electronic sound experiments.
His works include sculptural sound and video installations, sound installations in public spaces, multi-channel sound compositions and performances and are presented at numerous festivals, museums and galleries.
As a curator he organized the sound art program “Lautsprecher” at the Museum Ostwall Dortmund from 2010 – 2015.
He also produces radio plays as well as documentary forms of the auditory, such as essays and features (e.g. Studio für Akustische Kunst WDR, Bayerischer Rundfunk, NDR, Deutschlandradio Kultur, medienwerk nrw, and others ).
